In the fall of 2022 I had the opportunity to work on the opening studio logos for
Black Adam while I was at Deva Studios.
I initially rendered and composited an animation using the existing designs done by
Tyler Hicks and Michael Daniels but then notes from the filmmakers came back asking for a different treatment that would more closely resemble some specific shots from the film that used saturated skies and volumetric lighting. I ended up creating a new lighting setup and modified
some of the existing textures until eventually ending up with this result.
I tried a few different 3D approaches for the lightning but eventually ended up handling that all in After Effects and tracked it in with masks frame by frame...sometimes old school is still the way to go!
This was a super fun project to be a part of and I'm very grateful to the team
